Review of the Thule Urban Glide 3
I’ll be honest, I’ve owned a lot of strollers in my 4 years of motherhood. I’ve owned full size strollers, travel size strollers, wagons, double strollers and this Thule Urban Glide 3 is my second single jogging stroller that I’ve owned.
I didn’t intend to buy a second jogging stroller, but when we moved to Berkeley, I had sold a few of my strollers in an attempt to downsize because we were losing a lot of storage space (particularly a garage) and we had a double jogging stroller because we had two kids, so I sold my single jogging stroller, the Bob All Terrain Pro, which I absolutely loved and used all the time. And that is where I made my mistake.
Once we moved, I realized I still needed a single jogging stroller. My oldest son was in school and I needed a way to take my youngest on a walk. And I’m not talking any walk, I’m talking a fast paced, long walk. I have walked 5 miles everyday for the past 6 years. Now its changed a little bit while I was pregnant and recently had to shorten to 4 miles (as that is the longest my 1 year old is content in the stroller). But regardless, I still walk multiple miles everyday with my children.
After a lot of research and contemplation, and much to my husbands dismay, I decided I needed to buy another single jogging stroller as I would use it everyday as I try to walk 5+ days a week. Since I had already owned a Bob stroller, I wanted to try something new. I had always been attracted to Thule for their sleek designs and easy push. I was hesitant because a lot of the reviews talk about how the seat is more reclined and more narrow compared to Bob. I didn’t want to buy the same jogging stroller as the one I had just sold, even though I absolutely loved it. I also wanted something a little bit smaller than the Bob folded up since I would have to fold it to put it away after every use.
The REI near us had the Thule Urban Glide 3 in stock, so I was able to go in person and check it out, something I highly recommend doing if you can. I had my 11 month old at the time sit in it and got to test it out.
PROS:
This stroller has the sleekest design, the all black frame and black fabric us unmatched. The push is one handed, very smooth and easy to control. The hand break is very easy to use for going downhill. The covered basket is handy so things don’t fall out. The extendable sunshade is very large and offers a lot of protection.
CONS:
To get the most compact fold, you have to put the handlebar down in the furthest position, but it doesn’t lock, so when you pick it up, the handlebar moves and locks into a different position which doesn’t work if you are storing it upright. The seat is more narrow and is reclined compared to its competitors. Thule does not offer an older sibling rider board, which would be so great since we do this as a daily stroller when out and about since we live in a very walkable area.
OVERALL:
I absolutely love this stroller. It does not feel like I’m pushing a huge jogging stroller. It feels very lightweight when pushing and can turn on a dime. My toddler seems to enjoy riding in it, and let's be honest, that is a huge win and very important. It also feels lighter to push than my previous BOB stroller. We will see how my son grows with it. I know my older son fit very comfortably into the BOB All-Terrain pro at 3+ years.
